About the show

The cat is the one who finds everything faintly ridiculous. The dog takes it all extremely seriously. Between them, that's roughly the editorial position: funny about the industry, serious about the craft.

Why we exist

There is more long-form audio published every week than any person could hear in a decade. Our job is simple: point you at the interesting ones and away from the rest.

How we judge a show

• Curiosity. Does the host want an answer or a clip?
• Preparation. Have they read the book?
• Honesty under pressure. What happens when the guest is wrong?
• Restraint. Can the host tolerate a silence?

What we won't do

Rank by download numbers, pretend an advert is a recommendation, or file a review of something we haven't finished listening to.
